Types of Pets Seen
During an exam, Dr. Withers or Dr. Rybicki examine your pet's heart and lungs, evaluate his or her vision, check for unusual lumps or growths, examine the teeth, and check for swelling and stiffness and the joints. We also perform routine tests for internal and external parasites.
We will also discuss with you important information about your pet's health, from diet and nutritional guidelines to vaccine plans. We are more than happy to answer any questions you may have about your pet's health.
Fleas, ticks, heartworms and other parasites can be a real pain for your pet. We offer a wide range of preventive medications that can help your pet avoid heartworm disease and the other health problems that arise when parasites are present.
If your pet is missing, you want to find him or her as soon as possible. A sturdy collar and identification tags are a good start for pet identification but they may not be enough. A microchip is a safe, easy way to increase the chances your pet will return home safely should he or she go missing. About the size and shape of a grain of rice, each microchip contains unique information about your pet. The microchip is implanted beneath the skin between your pet's shoulder blades in a process similar to a vaccination. Most veterinary hospitals and shelters have scanners capable of reading the information on microchips. When your pet is found, his or her microchip is scanned and the information is used to reunite you and your companion. We use HomeAgain microchips.
Many common diseases that once afflicted pets can now be prevented through the use of regular vaccinations. We vaccinate against leptospirosis, rabies, feline leukemia, parvovirus and other diseases. Some vaccinations are given annually while others are given every three years. We realize that every pet has different needs and we will work with you to tailor a vaccination schedule that best fits your pet.
Our canine patients receive quality rabies vaccines (in either 1 or 3-year form) that are extensively tested and free of contaminating agents, so they are exceptionally well tolerated. The distemper vaccine that we use is a high-titer, well-tolerated vaccination as well.
For our feline patients, we use PureVax vaccines which eliminate unnecessary proteins and adjuvants that can cause injection site reactions and/or chronic inflammation in cats.
Our clinic is equipped with diagnostic tools capable of performing a number of vital tests for your pet. The trained technicians in our laboratory can perform a number of blood panel tests, urinalysis and fungal cultures. We are also capable of processing tissue and organ biopsies. Results are often available in a few minutes, which means a fast, accurate diagnosis for your pet. We also use a centralized reference laboratory for some tests, ensuring that your pet receives the best diagnostic care available.
We have invested in the latest digital x-ray technology for your pet's diagnosis. Digital x-rays are incredibly beneficial for both you and your pet. Unlike traditional film x-rays, digital radiographs are more detailed and of higher quality, leading to a faster, more accurate diagnosis. Digital x-rays are easier to take than film x-rays, resulting in less time on the x-ray table and less stress for your pet. Because the images are digital, your pet's x-rays can be saved to a disc and easily transmitted to specialists and consultants should further diagnosis or treatment be required.
Ultrasound is a non-invasive diagnostic procedure used primarily to examine the abdomen. Using high-frequency soundwaves, our ultrasound equipment provides a real-time "movie" of your pet's organs, giving us a high-quality image that can be used to diagnose diseases of the liver, kidneys and other internal organs.
Surgical procedures are performed in our clinic 4 days a week. A few of the types of procedures that we routinely carry out are:
All procedures are preceded by a full physical examination and laboratory blood testing to ensure everything goes smoothly. We want your pet's surgical experience to be as stress free as possible for both you and your pet, so don't hesitate to contact us with questions.
Our appointment book is computerized which allows us to efficiently make appointments for you and your pet. Our team will attempt to accommodate all requests to the best of our ability. If you feel you have an emergency with your pet, please call us immediately. It is best to call before coming in so that a staff member can advise you on your particular emergency.
